Is SPM equivalent to O Level?

SPM, or Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia, is a Malaysian qualification. O Level, or Ordinary Level, is a British qualification. They are not equivalent.

SPM is a high school qualification that is taken by students in Malaysia at the end of their secondary education. It is a national examination that is conducted by the Malaysian Examination Syndicate. O Level is a secondary school qualification that is taken by students in the United Kingdom and a number of other countries at the end of their secondary education. It is a public examination that is conducted by the University of Cambridge International Examinations.

In general, SPM is considered to be a higher qualification than O Level. This is because SPM is a more comprehensive examination that covers a wider range of subjects. In addition, SPM is graded on a scale from A+ to G, while O Level is graded on a scale from A* to E.

However, there are some exceptions to this general rule. For example, some O Level subjects may be considered to be more difficult than their equivalent SPM subjects. In addition, some universities and colleges may give preference to students with O Level qualifications over students with SPM qualifications.

Ultimately, the equivalence of SPM and O Level depends on the specific requirements of the institution or organisation that is assessing the qualifications.
