- Ti Jean: The youngest of three brothers, known for his kindness and intelligence
- Gros Jean: The oldest brother, strong but not very intelligent
- Mi Jean: The middle brother, cunning and selfish
- The Princess: The daughter of the king, kind and beautiful
- The King: The ruler of the kingdom, wise and just
- The Queen: The king's wife, and the mother of the princess
- The wicked stepmother: The princess's cruel and jealous stepmother, who wants to prevent the princess from getting married
- The fairy: A magical creature who helps Ti Jean on his journey
- The ogre: A giant, fearsome creature who lives in the forest
Act 2: "The Three Tasks"
In Act 2, the three brothers must each complete three tasks set by the king in order to win the hand of the princess.
- Ti Jean: Must find the magic bird, the talking fish, and the golden apple
- Gros Jean: Must climb the glass mountain, fight the dragon, and swim the boiling sea
- Mi Jean: Must outwit the wicked stepmother, find the magic ring, and bring back water from the fountain of youth
