Day Care Field Trip Ideas

Field trips are an extraordinary way for young, curious minds to learn and explore the world around them. Whether it be a trip to the pumpkin patch or a visit to the firehouse, field trips are a good way for toddlers and preschool age children to have fun while learning at the same time.
  1. The Pumpkin Patch

    • October is a fun-filled month for kids of all ages, especially the little ones. Not only are the leaves turning colorful shades of orange and red, but they also get to dress up for Halloween and get free candy. Halloween is also associated with pumpkins; they provide children with hours of carving fun. A field trip to the pumpkin patch teaches them how their jack-o-lanterns are grown, as their tour guide walks them through the field filled with hundreds of pumpkins. Most pumpkin patches allow them to pick a pumpkin to take home and enjoy.

    Walk to the Library

    • Many children love having stories read to them, and a field trip to the library helps them learn about books and how the library takes care of these reading materials. The best time to take a day care class on this type of field trip is on a day when the library offers story hour. This not only provides them a learning experience but also a fun experience. In addition, many libraries offer a snack after story time has ended, along with time for making a craft that accompanies the story they have heard.

    Trip to the Firehouse

    • Children love looking at the shiny red firetrucks up close. On a trip to the firehouse, the kids will not only learn about the trucks but will also receive a tour of the firehouse, see where the firemen sleep and watch them as they slide down the pole as though they were on their way to an actual fire. Some fire departments will even give the kids plastic fire hats and badges to wear, making them feel as though they are real firefighters.
