Take a trip to your local library to hear a Thanksgiving story. Most libraries have a children's section and a reader who can plan special events for your class. After a story is read, plan a craft. Finish the day by having a Thanksgiving Day feast at school.
November is a time of year associated with fall and harvest times. Plan a trip to a local park where the leaves are falling. The children can play in piles of leaves. Show them different leaves and connect the leaves to the trees they come from. The children also can collect leaves to make a special fall project back in the classroom.
Visit a pumpkin patch. It is appropriate for the season and a great way to show little ones how something familiar grows. Each child can choose a small pumpkin to bring back to the classroom and paint.
November is about halfway through the school year. To reward everyone's success, take a trip to the zoo or a local farm. Kids enjoy learning about animals, and they can see where the food they eat comes from. Any time of year is a good time to teach children about our dedicated firefighters and police officers. Visit a fire house or police station. A simple visit to your local grocery retailer can be entertaining as well. All children at one time or another have wondered what is behind the swinging doors.
