The Griffith Park Observatory is an ideal spot to take preschoolers on a field trip. This renovated facility features a planetarium, solar telescopes, and a Zeiss telescope, which gives students spectacular views of the stars. In addition, the Planetarium features 285 seats, a state-of-the-art sound system, and an aluminum dome. The planetarium features an astronomy show nearly every hour, although children under the age of 5 may only attend the first show of the day, held at 12:45 p.m. on weekdays or 10:45 a.m. on weekends and must sit on the lap of a parent or guardian if admitted free of charge. Tickets to shows in the planetarium cost $7.00 for adults, $3.00 for children between the ages of five and 12, and are free for children under the age of five. Admission to the observatory, surrounding grounds, and use of the telescopes are free.
