Games to Play With Preschoolers

It is important to play games with preschoolers that have short instructions and that will keep their attention. Try playing games that are educational and fun. Games that allow children to get up and move will also be successful with this age group. There are many games to play that preschoolers will enjoy.
  1. Stuffed Animal Charades

    • Animal Charades is a fun game that preschoolers can easily enjoy. You need a pillowcase and several stuffed animals. Put all of the stuffed animals in the pillowcase. Have one child come up and reach into the pillowcase and look at the stuffed animal. Make sure all of the other kids close their eyes while the preschooler is looking at the stuffed animal so that only you and the child know the animal. After they see which animal they picked, they will put the animal back into the pillowcase. He/she will have to act like the animal with only motions--no sound. Let the children shout out their guesses. The child who guesses correctly gets to go next.

    Memory

    • You can make a Memory game using index cards. This is a great game to help preschoolers recognize their numbers and letters. Write letters or numbers on the index cards. Be sure to write the same number or letter on two different cards. Do not start out with too many because you do not want the children to get frustrated from the beginning. Place the cards face down on a table or floor. The kids will try and find matches. For example, if they turn over the letter "A" they will try and find the match. If they get the match, they keep the pair. Whoever has the most matches wins the game.

    Duck, Duck, Goose

    • This is a fun game that is perfect for preschoolers. You can play this game inside on a rainy day, or play outside if the weather is nice. Have the kids sit in a circle. You will pick one child to be the. "goose". The other kids sitting are the, "ducks." The goose will walk around the circle and gently pat the ducks' heads. As he pats their heads, hr will say, "Duck." When he decides to tag someone, he pats the head and says, "goose." The child tagged will stand up and run after the child that tagged him. The child that is being chased must try to run as fast as he can back to the spot of the child he tagged. You can play this as many times as you want. The kids will enjoy chasing one another.
