For this game, assign each child an animal name, some adult animals and some baby animals. For example, one child will be a "cow" and another will be a "calf." Gather all of the children into one area of the room and call it the barn. Ask all of the adult animals to close their eyes. Say "The barn door is open," and all of the baby animals escape to various parts of the room. The baby animals begin to make the sound of their animal. For example, the calf says "moo." The adult animals have to find their matching baby animal by listening for the sound. Repeat the game and have the groups switch roles.
Create a barn by cutting a door into two sides of a large cardboard box. Have the children line up outside the barn door and begin playing music. Use a farm-themed song such as "Old McDonald." Invite each child to crawl through the barn's front door and come out the back door. As one preschooler crawls out another goes in. Occasionally stop the music and the child who is in the barn at the time is "caught" and must sit out. Continue playing until all of the students have been caught in the barn.
To prepare for this game, hide a variety of small plastic farm animal toys in a large pile of hay or decorative grass. Pass out a small bag to each child. Tell a story to the children about how the animals have escaped from the barn and have gotten lost in the hay. Invite the children to search through the hay to find the hidden animals and collect them in their bags. After they have found the animals, encourage children to name the animals and count the number of animals they collected.
Divide the group into two teams and have them form lines behind a starting point. Place a basket full of plastic eggs at the starting line and an empty basket at the finish line. Give the first person in each line a spoon. When the race begins the child at the front of the line will choose an egg from the first basket and place it in his spoon. Holding just the handle of the spoon, he must carry the egg to the finish line without dropping it and place it into the second basket. Then he returns the spoon to the next person in line to carry another egg. If a player drops his egg while walking, he must pick it up and start again from the beginning. The team who delivers all of their eggs from one basket to another wins the game.
