Make two dice from same-sized square boxes. On each section of the boxes, glue one sheep. Use the colors black, white, and four different bright colors. Make a game path by attaching half-sheets of paper to the floor with masking tape. The path should contain all six of the colors used in the dice, varied in placement. Separate the class into two groups. The teams will begin at opposite ends of the path. Give each team one die. One child at a time will roll the die on the floor, then move to the nearest space that is the same color as the die picture facing upward. The teams will move in opposite directions to reach the other end of the path. Play until all the children have completed the path.
Fold a piece of white paper into eighths. Trace the fold lines with a dark marker. Copy the page for each child. Have the kids draw a picture as teacher directs, each in one section on the paper. Use ideas such as one black sheep, one white sheep, bags of wool and other pictures to fill in the eight sections on the paper. Have children print their names in each of the eight boxes. Make one color copy of each child's page. Have the kids cut the sections apart on both pages, and glue each of the 16 sections onto an index card to create a personalized matching game for each child. Kids can play the game with a partner, using one or both sets of the cards. Place the cards face down and draw two cards. If they match, that child keeps the pair. Continue until the card matches are all found.
Have kids glue black, soft fabric pieces, as in a mosaic picture, onto a paper plate. Kids can cut sheep ears, eyes, nose, and mouth from construction paper. Examples - felt, cotton fabric, fleece and wool.
Have the kids trace and cut cut ten simple "bag" shapes from brown bag paper. Glue a piece of black felt at the top of each bag. Have kids write a number on each bag, from one to 10. Use the bag for simple counting, number recognition, or simple addition or subtraction games.
Play a variation of "duck, duck, goose," substituting the sound baa for the word duck. Then, instead of goose, use a moo or other animal sound.
Give each child 10 white and ten black sheep cutouts. Have the kids practice sequencing. Dictate sequences such as two black, three white, one black, one white, until children have each used all 20 of their sheep.
