Each child is allowed to enter a maximum of two projects into the fair. The minimum size of each entry must be 16 inches by 16 inches with a maximum size of 48 inches by 48 inches. Artwork may not be work that was done in a classroom and must be completely original.
Youth of all ages love to show off their talents at State Fair competitions. At the California State Fair in Sacramento each year, children ages 15 and under can enter into the talent show competition. Children with a variety of talents may enter. Preschoolers can dance, sing and even show off their karate moves on stage. Kids are required to complete a pre-fair audition of two minutes in length. Those that are chosen perform on a specific day during the fair and compete with other kids for cash and prizes.
Young children love learning how to put together ingredients and see how fun cooking can be. At the Oklahoma State Fair, children seven and under can enter the cooking competition. All entries must be created from a recipe and not from a boxed mix. All recipes are submitted to the judges on 8 ½ inch by 11 inch paper. Kids who submit candy must enter at least one pound of candy and those submitting cookies need to enter at least 6 to 9 cookies into the competition. Other items that can be submitted include gingerbread men, fudge and brownies.
Preschoolers are learning about living things and how to grow simple seeds into flowers and plants. At the Indiana State Fair, children can grow a watermelon and if they grow a large one, they can enter it into the Giant Watermelon contest. Growers can reside in any state, but the watermelon must have been grown and cared for by the child. To be considered, the watermelon must weigh at least 90 pounds. The watermelon entry must be undamaged and the child can only enter one melon into the competition.
