Crafts for Father's Day by Preschool Children

Father's Day is celebrated the third Sunday of June each year. The holiday celebrates fatherhood and honors the important role of fathers in the lives of their children. Rather than purchasing Father's Day cards, let your preschoolers make a Father's Day craft. Preschoolers love making crafts, and their dads will treasure the handmade gifts for years to come.
  1. Barbecue Apron

    • You will need one canvas apron for each child, fabric paints, letter sponges and paper plates. Letter sponges are available at most craft stores and online. Pour different color fabric paint on each paper plate. Help each preschooler, one at a time, use the sponge letters to decorate the apron. Let the child spell out "Happy Father's Day," "World's Greatest Grilling Daddy" or "My Daddy, the Best Cook" using the letters sponges and fabric paint on the apron. You will have to help each child keep the letters and numbers straight. After the paint has dried, let each child put his hands in the paint and press them on the apron. Be sure to write or paint the year on the apron.

    Hand Poem

    • Dads often forget just how fast their little ones are growing up, so create a picture with each preschoolers handprints so Dad can remember forever just how small his little one once was. Take a white sheet of paper and print an appropriate poem on the paper. Be sure there is room for the child's handprints on the page. A good poem to use is "Handprints" by T. Lambert Jr. "Sometimes you get discouraged, because I am so small. And always leave my fingerprints, on furniture and walls. But every day I'm growing (I'll be grown some day). And all those tiny handprints, will surely fade away. So here's a little handprint, just so you can recall. Exactly how my fingers looked, when I was very small." Let each child put their hands in paint and place on the sheet of paper around the poems. Write the date on the paper and laminate it.

    Sunshine Craft

    • Create a "You are my sunshine" craft for Father's Day. Ask your preschoolers to bring a photo of them and their fathers. Print several suns and allow the children to tape their pictures to the middle of the suns. Write, "Daddy, You are my Sunshine" on top of the paper. Allow the preschooler to decorate the paper by coloring the sun or adding glitter or other embellishments. Write the date on the paper.
