The Effects of Daycare on Children at an Early Age

Scientists constantly debate the pros and cons of childcare with no conclusive findings. The only conclusion reached is that children with solid and interactive relationships with the parents had slightly higher test scores with no direct link to parenting skills or day care influence. Regardless, you will find some very positive impacts to having your young child in a quality daycare program, with quality defined as structured, interactive, and clean.
  1. Social Behaviors

    • Your child may be shy or may be outgoing. Introducing either behavior pattern into a daycare environment at a younger age better prepares the child for the social nature of school. The shy child may suffer stress as a result of daycare at a younger age, but that stress subsides at home. The same child will be less stressed when entering public schools. The outgoing child will take to the environment like a fish to water, but may develop aggressive tendencies that will fade with time and structured parenting.

    Intelligence

    • Nothing can beat the one-on-one interaction of a parent and child for education. The hands-on approach means that the child dictates how he or she learns and the parent is able to structure lessons accordingly. The highest potential for intelligence in a child comes from being able to cater to that child's learning abilities. You do not get that in daycare. However, you do not get that in school either. The child raised in home care will be ill-prepared for the generalized approach to education and may falter initially when having to learn at a pace much slower or faster to which he is accustomed. The generalized approach can be found in day cares which would prepare the child for a similar layout in the school system, enabling a smoother and progressive education.

    Emotional Development

    • Your child's personality is not set in stone until he or she is 25. A parent will undoubtedly cater to a child regardless of familial structure. A teacher will cater to the group. The individual attention given inside the home cannot be matched inside of a school. A child has to learn independence of a form within a daycare. That lesson cannot be taught inside the home. Learning independence at a young age is neither positive nor negative until the family impact changes it. Providing a nurturing but supportive home environment while the child learns independence in a daycare environment provides the framework for positive emotional development.
