How to Teach Spanish in Daycare Centers

The best time to teach a child to speak a second language is at a young age. You can easily incorporate teaching Spanish in a daycare center into the everyday routine. Taking the time to plan what to teach will benefit the learners in the long run. By just taking things that are taught in English, such as ABCs, and teaching them in Spanish too, exposes children to the language and gets them learning a new language.

Instructions

    • 1

Hire a bilingual teacher for the daycare center. Have the teacher use both English and Spanish when talking to the children throughout the day.

    • 2

Recite the days of the week in Spanish after doing it in English every morning during circle time.

    • 3

Count to 10 in English and then in Spanish during math time.

    • 4

Plan to introduce an everyday item to the children each week on Monday. For example, if you are teaching the word "ball," hold up the ball and tell the students what it is in English, then tell them the Spanish word for ball. Use the Spanish word for the object chosen for the week as much as you can during that week.

    • 5

Recite the ABCs in English and then in Spanish each day.

    • 6

Provide bilingual books in the class library, such as alphabet and number books.

    • 7

Play Spanish songs for the children to sing daily.
