Cookie-Themed Art Projects for Preschoolers

Preschoolers love the sweet taste of just about any type of cookie along with the satisfaction that comes with with biting into a crispy treat. Celebrate the goodness that cookies offer by featuring cookie-themed crafts. Choose basic, age-appropriate crafts that most preschool children can do on their own with little assistance from an adult.
  1. Cookie Collage

    • Help the kids make a cookie collage that features different types of sweet treats. Show them how to cut out pictures of cookies from magazines or help them draw their own cookies. Glue the pictures of the cookies on poster board. Use markers to write down the type of cookie directly under the collage and ask the kids to describe what each cookie tastes like. Cookies generally taste like chocolate, vanilla or peanut butter, but there are also a myriad of other tastes to explore. Give the kids freshly baked cookies while they work on their craft to create more inspiration.

    Decorating Real Cookies

    • Cooking decorating is a simple, edible craft that preschool children can do with little assistance. Bake real sugar cookies for the kids to enjoy and bring these to class along with frosting, sprinkles, gummy bears or other candies.Show the kids how to spread the frosting on their cookie with a plastic knife. Then help them add sprinkles and other embellishments. Allow the kids to eat their creations.

    Gingerbread-Man Cookie Painting

    • Make real gingerbread cookies for the kids to enjoy before painting.

Show the kids how to paint a gingerbread-man cookie. Give them light-brown paint along with poster board. Allow the paint to dry and then help them paint different features on the gingerbread cookie such as buttons, bow tie, face, hat or other clothing.

    Cookie Dough Sculptures

    • Give each child plain or chocolate-chip cookie dough. Show them how to mold shapes and make miniature sculptures such as cats, dogs, stars, hearts or other creations. You can also give the children dinosaur or teddy-bear cookie cutters if they want to make flat sculptures. Don't allow the children to eat cookie dough, because it's made with raw eggs. This art project is just for enjoyment. Let the sculptures dry so the kids can take them home.
