Preschool Bible Games

Whether in Sunday school, a Christian preschool or in your own home, utilizing games to help teach children simple Bible lessons will help keep them engaged in the learning. By first introducing the lessons and stories in the form of games, you make both the concepts and the learning fun. You also help establish a foundation that can be built upon by lessons in the years to come.
  1. Simon Peter Says

    • Put a new twist on the classic "Simon Says" game where children follow the directions of one leader, Simon. Choose one student to play the apostle Simon Peter and assign the rest of the children a different name from the remaining 12 apostles, such as John, James, Judas, Thomas and Matthew. Instruct the person playing Simon Peter to call out instructions, using the names of the apostles. For example, "Matthew, Simon Peter says to skip." The child or children given the name Matthew must now skip. The game helps the student memorize the names of the 12 apostles.

    Bible Bingo

    • Create and distribute bingo cards that have images related to the Bible, such as a dove, a crown, a cross and a fish. Place cards into a paper bag that represent all the images on the student's bingo cards. As you call out the cards, preempt naming the card by first describing it. For example, choose a card and say "This animal came to be a symbol for Christianity, it is the fish." The children with the fish will then mark their cards. The first student to create a line on their bingo card wins.

    Musical Chairs of Love

    • Place enough chairs in a circle for all the children in the class minus one. Play a child's Bible song about the love of Jesus, such as "Jesus Loves Me," or "Jesus Loves the Children," and instruct the children to walk around the circle of chairs. When the music stops, all the children must find a seat. The student who does not find a chair gets to wear a crown while you explain about the love Jesus has for everyone. According to KidsSundaySchool.com, the game illustrates that no one loses when they have the love of Jesus. Give the student a prize and instruct him to sit out for the next round. Remove a chair and play the game again. Continue playing until every child has the experience of wearing the crown and getting a prize.

    David and Goliath

    • In the Biblical story of David and Goliath, a young David defeats the mighty giant of Goliath by hitting him with a sling-hurled rock. Teach the students about the mighty feat through a simple game. Hang a poster drawing of a giant Goliath on the wall. Arm the students each with a construction paper rock, backed with a piece of double sided tape. Blindfold the students one at a time and spin them around. Instruct them to try and pin the rock on the forehead of Goliath. The student who gets the closest wins a prize.
