Preschool Teaching Sources

Preschool is a time for children between the ages of one and five to develop some of the basic skills they will build on when they enter formal schooling. There are numerous resources available for preschool teachers to make the most out of their classroom experience, both online and in print form.
  1. Books and Written Resources for Teachers

    • There are entire libraries worth of published material available for preschool teachers to utilize for their classes. Books such as "A Survival Guide for the Preschool Teacher" and "Preschool Classroom Management: 150 Teacher-Tested Techniques" can be invaluable resources for the preschool teacher. You can also find book resources for addressing specifics in the classroom, such as "Sensory Integration: A Guide for Preschool Teachers" and "Dancing in Your School: A Guide for Preschool and Elementary School Teachers". Look for books of worksheets and coloring pages in teacher resource stores as well to use in the classroom.

    A to Z Teacher Stuff

    • The Internet is an invaluable source for the preschool teacher. There is a wealth of websites designed to provide resources for preschool teachers, by preschool teachers. A to Z Teacher Stuff, for example, is a website that offers lesson plans, classroom theme ideas, craft project tutorials, printable worksheets and worksheet generators, and general advice for the classroom. A to Z Teacher Stuff also provides a forum for preschool teachers to discuss classroom strategies and compare experiences (see Resources).

    Preschool Rainbow

    • Preschool Rainbow is another website that offers resources for preschool teachers, written by an early childhood educator with 30 years of classroom experience. Like A to Z Teacher Stuff, Preschool Rainbow offers a range of classroom activities, craft projects, lesson plans, themes, and game ideas for the preschool teacher. Preschool Rainbow also provides a section on at-home activities, geared toward the parents of preschoolers, designed to enhance classroom learning by practicing skills at home.

    Preschool Express

    • Preschool Express, a website curated by an ex-teacher and published children's book author, is another expansive online resource for preschool teachers. Preschool Express is divided into a series of stations, each of which offer a series of activities and lesson plans dealing with a particular theme, such as games, food, discovery and art. Each station suggests appropriate activities for each season, as well as "Anytime Activities" that can be done at any time of the year.
