Preschool Lesson Books

Preschool is early childhood classes for children ages three and four that can be educated about the ABC's, numbers and interacting with other children. To help with many of these activities, there are lesson books. Lesson books can be one of two things: a child-friendly story that is designed to be educational and provoke discussion and activities, or a book full of several activities.
  1. Good Night, Gorilla

    • "Good Night, Gorilla," by Peggy Rathmann, is a book that is designed to teach children something new every time they page through it. It is zoo-themed and introduces preschoolers to several different animals, like elephants, lions, giraffes, hyenas and armadillos. Children can learn several lessons through activities with the book. For instance, teachers and parents can ask children to describe the animals and their actions based on the illustrations in the text. Lessons can also be scheduled so that children learn about a different animal from the text each time they read it.

    26 Letters and 99 Cents

    • "26 Letters and 99 Cents" is book by Tana Hoban that teaches preschoolers both about the ABC's and counting money. Essentially, it is two books in one. One side of the book teaches children the letters of the alphabet while the other side teaches children different ways to make up monetary amounts. It is brightly illustrated with fun pictures to help children learn and interact with the subject matter. It's available in hardcover format.

    101 Music Games For Children

    • "101 Music Games For Children" by Jerry Storms is a 143-page paperback book that is designed to introduce preschool children to music and sound. The book works in partnership with cassettes or CDs; children listen along as they guide them through listening, concentration and guessing games. A musical concentration game is also included. The book is intended to help children develop creative, social and personal skills. Although primarily intended for preschoolers, the book's lessons can continue to be practiced throughout later years.

    Let's Be Happy

    • "Let's Be Happy," by P.K. Hallinan is a fun, rhyming book designed to take the complex subject of empathy and relate it to a preschool audience. The book follows a main character as he does chores, plays and accomplishes other activities with a sense of happiness and joy. The text includes bright, colorful illustrations so that children can follow along with ease about how having a good, positive attitude can be beneficial. It is intended for ages four through eight.
