What Are Preschool Harvest Games?

Harvest is the three months before winter and after summer time. During this time, the weather changes and makes nature change along with it. There are plenty of games that can be played among preschoolers to celebrate this time. Leaves are some of the best objects to play with during the harvest period.
  1. Pin the Leaf on the Tree

    • Draw a bare tree on a poster board. Give each child a leaf to use for a game piece. Help the children write their names on their leaf. On the back of each leaf, use dual-sided tape so it can stick onto the poster board. Blindfold each child and have them take turns pinning their leaves onto the poster board where they believe the leaf should go. The final poster board doubles as a harvest leaf collage.

    Ring the Pumpkin

    • The larger the pumpkin, the easier it is for children to toss the ring around the pumpkin stem.

Line up three or more pumpkins with stems facing up. Make homemade rings or hoops with rope and duct tape. Store-bought rings can also be used. Mark a throwing line on the floor for the participants. Have each ring tosser take turns trying to toss the ring around the pumpkin stem.

    Harvest Bingo

    • Create your own bingo game on sheets of paper with simple harvest symbols for the children. Some examples of symbols are pumpkin, scarecrow, straw hat, leaves and witch. Each answer sheet should be different from the others. The caller will call out a word or show an image to the children. The children will then place pennies, rocks or a marking piece over the symbol if it is on their card. Once they get all of their marking pieces in a line, they will call out "Bingo!"

    Squirrel, Squirrel, Scarecrow

    • Play "Squirrel, Squirrel, Scarecrow," which is played like Duck, Duck, Goose, except the words are changed. The children will sit in a circle, and one child will be "it." "It" will go around the circle calling out "squirrel" until she chooses a "scarecrow." The person chosen as scarecrow will chase "it" around the circle until she takes the scarecrow's place on the floor. The person left standing will become "it" and repeat the actions.
