What Things Do They Do in Preschool?

The first few years are essential developmental times for children. Preschool children need a variety of activities to help them learn and develop. Most children are eager to learn and become more independent during their preschool years. The children will get a majority of activities in the classroom environment of a preschool. Through play and other hands-on experience they can learn many of the skills they will need to progress socially and educationally in kindergarten and in everyday life.
  1. Preschool Games

    • Preschool kids need to have fun and learn to get along with other children. Games help them accomplish this. Many games help teach teamwork and good sportsmanship to the children. They may also develop coordination while playing.

Learning games can help the kids to learn colors, counting, the alphabet or number and letter recognition. Games can be fun, and the preschool children may not even realize that they are learning while they are playing the game.

    Preschool Arts and Crafts

    • Use arts and crafts as a learning tool in preschool. Children can learn control and coordination by coloring, using scissors and glue. These give the children a creative outlet where they can use their imagination to create characters or drawings. They may do activities such as drawing, coloring, painting, cutting out and other simple crafts. Some arts and crafts are specifically for the children to take home to their parents during holidays.

    Preschool Music

    • Use music to teach children a number of things. They play songs about colors, shapes, numbers and the alphabet. Singing a song about the alphabet or other things can help children remember them and make it fun in the process.

Use preschool music classto teach the children about some of the basic musical instruments. Having the opportunity to see and play with an instrument can demonstrate how trained people use it. Some schools have programs where the children perform songs to show parents what they have learned in music class.

    Preschool Books

    • Books are an important tool in educating preschool children. Reading to and with the children helps them learn what the different words mean. Hearing the words and seeing the pictures can help develop their imagination.

Books can teach word recognition so that the kids can start learning to read on their own. Worksheets and word games can assist in word recognition as well. This will help prepare them for the lessons they will have on reading in kindergarten.
