Preschool Graduation Decoration Ideas

Preschool is designed to prepare young children for the demands of daily classroom instruction. Many young children spend at least a year or two at a local preschool. When a child is ready to make the transition between preschool and elementary school, many parents and schools hold a joyful celebration. A preschool graduation is a time for parents and children to help mark the child's first academic milestone. Use personalized decorations to make the occasion even more celebratory.
  1. Photo Collage of Children's Activities

    • Pick through leftover photographs from children's activities throughout the year. Include pictures from daily activities as well as field trips. Every child should have several pictures of themselves in the collage. Cut out individual pictures and gently paste the backs onto several pieces of oak tag. Staple the oak tag to the wall. Frame the collage with a border of cardboard in a bright color that everyone can see.

    Exhibit of Student Artwork

    • Showcase each student's creative artistic achievement with a special display. Have students create an art project specifically for graduation. Give them four pieces of white paper to write about their lives. Ask them to cut out shapes, such as stars and hearts, in the colors they like best. Let them glue the shapes to the paper. Staple the pieces of paper together and hang on the wall.

    Seats With Child's Name

    • Ask students to write their names on a piece of heavy cardboard. Have them decorate the area outside of the name with markers and glitter. Tape the child's name to the seat they will occupy during the graduation ceremony. After the ceremony ends, children can pull the cardboard away from the seat and use it as bookmark.

Space for Parent to Write a Note to the Child

    • Set aside an area for parents to write a letter to their child before the graduation ceremony. Provide parents with pens, paper and envelops. Decorate the table with brightly colored fabric.

Blue and White Crepe Paper Cut-Outs

    • Have students cut shapes from crepe paper. Students can cut any sort of shape they want such as diamonds, boy and girl figures, and stars from blue and white crepe paper. Supervise them carefully to make sure they are using scissors safely. String the results along the edges of the auditorium.
