Create an attractive bulletin board display with "The Golden Rule" and "Do to others what you would have them do to you" displayed prominently. Include pictures of children playing together and working cooperatively.
Read Matthew 7:9-12 to the children during story time or a quiet part of the day, possibly right before nap time.
Ask the students to share some times when friends did something to them that they did not like or that made them angry.
Ask the children how they like to be treated by their friends or what a good friend says and does.
Explain that Jesus told us to treat our friends just how we want to be treated.
Use specific examples of students playing nicely together and students fighting with each other to talk about how the Golden Rule is being applied.
Plan a simple craft or activity to reinforce the concept. Make a coloring sheet picturing children working or playing appropriately together, with the Golden Rule printed on the paper.
Recite and review the verse from Matthew 7:12 every day. A good time to do this would be during routine circle time or calendar time in the morning.
Reiterate the Golden Rule to the children throughout the day, pointing out good and poor examples in their behavior of how they are treating their friends and teachers.
