Purchase materials that you think you may need to create a creative, positive environment for children that will be in your care. Besides arts and craft supplies, purchase games that are appropriate for the ages of children at your home daycare. You can also develop your own games in which children can participate while learning.
Create areas where children can do different activities, such as a placing one or more children's tables where children can use them to make crafts, draw, paint and enjoy experimenting with different types of materials. At the start of each day's project, store the necessary supplies for each type of project in a location where you can easily access them, but that children can't reach.
Create separate areas in your home daycare for different activities, like playing with blocks and other toys, to another play center that is for story-time and puppet shows and another for arts and crafts. An outdoor play area that includes a sand box, slide and other outdoor equipment for play gives children an opportunity to be active. You can purchase or make themed dramatic play sets, like a children's kitchen where children can pretend to be mom or dad cooking for their family or a zoo set where children can pretend to be a gamekeepers or veterinarian taking care of the animals at the zoo.
Ensure that you follow your state's protocol in regard to providing a safe indoor and outdoor play environment where children can unleash their creative sides as well as exercise without injury.
