Children who have a visual learning style like to see the objects about which they are learning. Lessons such as the alphabet and learning to count are best done by seeing and recognizing the letters and numbers. Making flash cards with pictures, letters and numbers is a great way to foster the education of the visual learning style.
An auditory learning style requires talking out loud. This may mean that your child learns better by lectures or by repeating instructions out loud. Auditory learners may not be able to process written instructions like visual learners. Singing music and reading stories to your child is best for an auditory learner.
If your child likes to learn by using the hands-on method, this is referred to as the kinesthetic learning style. Kinesthetic learners like activities such as drawing or building. Using building blocks and having coloring books along with drawing paper and crayons handy will encourage your kinesthetic learner.
Most children do not have only one learning style, but adapt to a combination of styles. In order to best serve the children, make a note of which activities are learned with the different learning styles. One learning style is not better than the other; it is just a matter of knowing your child's preferences.
