Activities to Reinforce the Number Three in Preschool

Children learn through experience and repetition. When you think about all the concepts children learn in preschool to prepare them for the rest of their academic and social years, learning to count is as important as learning the alphabet. Teach preschoolers numbers using fun and interactive activities.
  1. Classification Games

    • Children increase logical thinking and their math vocabularies by playing classification games. These games are accessible at school and at home. Parents and teachers gather items, such as buttons, and have the students count them into groups of three by size or color. Students also transcribe the different combinations they come up with such as "three green" buttons. Making the game about speed increases students' use of gathering three buttons quicker than their opponent.

    Interactive Websites

    • Parents and teachers enable children to practice learning their numbers by going to websites that share interactive games to play. The website for "Sesame Street" allows children to play games such as Big Bird's Numbers, Counting With Elmo and Magical Numbers with Mumford the Magician. Cool math 4 kids is another online tool for children who are learning at a young age.

    Counting Crafts

    • Counting crafts for children promote creativity and self-awareness. Have children make crafts that are fun, creative, expressive and educational. Counting caterpillars are an example of a craft that encourages learning. Counting caterpillars are made by adding circles to make the body and adding decorations, such as a button, on the first circle, followed by two on the second, three on the third, and so on.

    Number Worksheets

    • Most worksheets children use to learn numbers feature a picture of the number they are learning at the top of the page, and then a lined section underneath where they trace the number. Using the picture to relate the number to trace at the bottom gives children a more hands-on activity to make connections in what they are learning.
