Select two or three local preschools. Consider curriculum styles and whether you prefer a developmental program or a more academically oriented pre-kindergarten or kinderprep curriculum, as well as whether the school is convenient to your home or work. Search the National Association for the Education of Young Children's database for programs that meet their curriculum standards.
Call the preschool's office to ask about their admissions policies. They may require an interview or testing in addition to your application. Schedule and fulfill these requirements. Make sure your child meets their age requirements and is potty trained, if necessary.
Request a copy of their application. Schedule an evening to sit down and go over all the paperwork with your spouse or partner. Make note of any additional items, such as income documentation for preschools serving low-income families or required medical releases.
Complete the application. Refer to your child's baby book or medical records if necessary for questions about your child's developmental history.
Gather all required supplemental materials. Allow time for your child's pediatrician to complete immunization or medical history forms.
Submit all application materials along with any application fees to the preschools before the admission deadline. Keep all items in order when submitting to assist the school in processing your child's forms. Ask when you should expect to hear about admissions decisions.
