Preschool EID Activities

Eid-ul-Fitr is an Islamic celebration that takes place following Ramadan's month of Holy fasting. This is a time of gift giving, feasting on the sacrificial lamb and praying to Allah. The preschool student learns Eid traditions and history through family and teachers. Create activities that allow the younger student to understand and become an important part of the celebration.
  1. Make Musical Instruments

    • Celebrate the joyful time of Eid through music. Make special Eid musical instruments by creating a drum and shaker. Use a large coffee can for the drum. Draw and paint (Islamic-appropriate) designs, on construction paper. Then tape the paper to the outside of the can. Place the plastic lid on the can and use your hands or drumsticks to create a beat. To make shakers, place tape on one end of a paper towel roll. Put several small rocks or pebbles inside the roll, seal it and shake to create a melody.

    Tissue Paper Flowers

    • The preschool student can present his parents with a tissue-paper flower to show his appreciation during this holiday. Cut out five to ten squares of tissue paper. Make the cuts either two-by-two or three-by-three inches. Layer the squares and make small half-inch accordion folds back and forth. Staple the center and then fluff the tissue paper to create the flower blossoms. Glue the blossom to the end of a straw to create its stem.

    Quran Box

    • Create a protective space for your Quran with a Quran box. Use a small cardboard box that the Quran fits into, and remove its lid. Decorate the box with black velvet paper. Put glue on each of the outer sides of the box and place a piece of velvet paper on each side. Trim the paper on all sides. Also line the inside of the box and lid with paper. The preschool student may need help trimming the paper.

    Acrostic Poem

    • Write the words, Eid-ul-Fitr, vertically on the board. Use the first letter of each word to brainstorm a characteristic of Eid. Allow students to discuss personal holiday experiences while thinking of words for the group poem. After the poem is complete, copy it onto paper for each student to give his parents.
