Preschool Activities for Goats

Teach preschool children about gentle animals like goats by featuring crafts and taking them to visit these animals. The kids can learn about the importance of caring for goats and other farm animals. Create lesson plans about goats and then feature crafts and other activities to make your lessons stick.
  1. Story Time

    • Encourage the children to appreciate goats by reading them stories about these animals. Goats have a sweet nature that really comes out in children's literature. Books such as "Beatrice's Goat," by Page McBrier teach children about the bond between a goat and child. "Little Apple Goat," by Caroline Church is about a goat who prefers apples more than oats or other types of foods. "Three Billy Goats Gruff," by Paul Galdone is another enjoyable story about three funny goats.

    Field Trips

    • Take your preschool students to a local petting zoo or goat farm. Encourage them to pet the goats and spend time observing these animals. Most petting zoos have a clean facility where kids of all ages can visit with the animals directly. Take lots of pictures to use for crafts after you get back to class. This experience can enrich their love for animals, especially goats.

    Goat Picture Collage or Book

    • Use the pictures from the field trip to make a goal picture collage or book. Give each child one or more pictures of themselves with the goats and help them glue the picture on a collage. Give the kids goat stickers to decorate with and encourage them to draw pictures on the collage also. To make a book, place five or more sheets of construction paper together and use a hole punch to make three holes on the left hand side. Use yarn to secure the book and then help the kids glue pictures in the book and decorate the pages with charms and other drawings.

    Coloring

    • Preschool children love to color or scribble on the page. Print out goat-themed coloring pages for the kids to color with crayons or colored pencils. They can cut out their colored pictures and glue these on the cover of their book, make a card or add them to the collage they already made.
