Red Ribbon Week Activities for Preschoolers

The Red Ribbon Week campaign promotes a drug and alcohol-free lifestyle. It takes place every year during the last full week in October, targeting communities and schools. Preschoolers can also participate, lending their creativity to the campaign while learning valuable life lessons at a young age
  1. Make a Ribbon

    • Preschoolers can get creative and learn about drug and alcohol prevention by making red ribbons. By attaching a safety pin to the ribbon the preschoolers or members of their families can wear this simple art project, creating awareness for Red Ribbon Week. This craft project can also help the preschoolers to learn about symbols and how they can represent a message or cause.

    Wear Red

    • Wearing red also creates awareness for Red Ribbon Week. Preschoolers can wear red and get creative with their outfits. For example, there could be a contest to see who can wear the most red, such as shoes, socks, shirts, pants and wristbands. As well, the preschoolers could design their own Red Ribbon Week shirts by using a black sharpie and a blank red T-shirt.

    Parade

    • Preschoolers organize on a parade through the school halls or in the nearby streets. They can also invite other preschoolers in the area to participate, thereby making an even bigger parade. During the march they can chant phrases such as "Say no to drugs!" This gives further promotion to the message of Red Ribbon Week.

    Banners and Posters

    • Similar to making a ribbon, making a banner or poster can combine creativity with learning about staying drug- and alcohol-free. Preschoolers can draw anti-smoking pictures, such as a cigarette with an X through it. In addition, they can sign their names on the banner or poster, pledging to stay drug- and alcohol-free. This shows people banding together for a common cause and sends an encouraging message to those who see the banners and posters.
