Preschool Donkey Projects

Teach preschoolers all about donkeys with entertaining activities and games. The donkey is a gray, or sometimes brown or red, mammal that is slightly smaller than a horse. Most notably known for their ability to carry heavy loads without tripping, the donkey is a helpful and useful animal. Give preschoolers a variety of projects so they can learn about this gentle and handy animal.
  1. Donkey Puzzle

    • Upload a picture of a donkey to an 8 1/2 by 11 inch sheet of paper. Give each child the picture and crayons for them to color in their donkey picture. Once the children complete their drawing, help them cut the picture into six large pieces. Create zigzag lines for the pieces because they will become a puzzle. Once the picture is cut, help the preschoolers put their puzzle together. Place the puzzle pieces in a small baggie to take home once the activity is complete.

Pin the Tail on the Donkey

    • Incorporate an old party game into the donkey theme for preschool by playing Pin the Tail on the Donkey. Purchase the donkey game from a party supply company or school supply store. The game will include a cutout of the donkey and several different tails. Gather a group of preschoolers, the same amount of children as there are tails, and hand out a tail to each child. Wrap a clean scarf or bandana around the child's eyes, and instruct the child to try and find the donkey to pin the tail.

    Donkey Paper Bag Craft

    • Print off a picture of a donkey head, two arms and a tail for each child. There are templates available online to print and cut. Help the children cut the head, arms and tail out of the template to use for their donkey paper bag craft. Give each child crayons or markers to color the donkeys grey, brown or red to reflect a real donkey. Open a brown paper lunch bag slightly, just so you can insert your hand. Position your hand so the back of your hand is against the straight back of the bag and your fingers cup over the interior edge of the bottom of the bag. You should be able to move your fingers up and down to move the bottom flap of the bag. Glue the donkey head to the bottom flap, the ears to the sides and the tail to the back, just around the wrist area. Let each child pretend to "talk" with their donkey.

    Donkey Paper Craft

    • Draw or upload a cartoonish photo of a donkey. Cut the donkey out of the paper and cut out each leg, tail and head. Give the seven different pieces to the preschoolers and instruct them to put the donkey back together. Use brads to attach the legs, head and tail so the pieces move when used.
