5-Year-Old Activity Projects

As a preschool teacher, you must develop fun and educational activities and projects for your students to enjoy. If you think of new activities for your preschoolers, they will be more excited to come to school. There are a variety of different activities you can use, whether they involve art or building social skills.
  1. Life-Size Image

    • Preschoolers can learn about body parts with a life-size image of themselves. Divide your preschoolers into pairs. Instruct them to trace their partner's body on butcher paper with a black pencil. Once they are finished, have the preschoolers decorate their own body image with markers, crayons or paint. Help each child label their body parts -- head, elbows, feet and so forth. Hang their body artwork on the wall when they finish.

    Show and Tell

    • Ask your preschoolers to bring something that is important to them to show the class. Whether they bring a favorite toy or a piece of jewelry their parents handed down to them, their classmates can learn more about them. Additionally, preschoolers will learn public speaking skills that will come to good use in the future.

    Animal Charades

    • Encourage your preschoolers to play a game of animal charades. Begin by placing a few different stuffed animals in a pillowcase. While the other preschoolers close their eyes, ask one child to pick an animal out of the pillowcase. Instruct him to act out the animal he picked, and allow the other children to guess what animal he is depicting. Whoever guesses the right animal can choose the next animal out of the pillowcase and act it out.

    Taco Building

    • Even though preschoolers are very young, they can still learn about the importance of making healthy food choices. The Center for Nutrition Policy Promotion, a branch of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, suggests instructing preschoolers to learn about food by having them make their own tacos. Bring the needed ingredients: tortillas, lettuce, refried beans, tomatoes, ground beef and shredded cheese. Young children are more likely to be interested in food preparation if they are involved in the process.
