Turn activities into games. A child is more likely to focus if he is enjoying himself. Games teach practical skills and lessons in a form that preschoolers will find appealing. This will also encourage an interest in the material you're teaching and he will try to learn more about it himself.
Ask questions about the toys she is playing with. Teaching your preschooler to take notice of the objects around her will help build her attention span. She will learn to notice things she has missed and investigate things more thoroughly and for a longer period of time. Always be open to her questions. If she wants to ask you questions about something, answer them until her questions are satisfied. If you don't know the answer, look it up together.
Create an atmosphere that encourages a longer attention span. Spend time talking, do puzzles together and organize reading time. Introduce activities and games such as chess which require prolonged thinking and concentration.
Avoid distracting children when they are taking an interest in something. Let them explore it on their own. Do not try to take control of their learning; rather, let them learn at their own speed whenever possible.
Feed your child properly. The better fed a child is, the better that child will be able to concentrate. Foods such as citrus fruit, eggs and vegetables help fight fatigue and can even build a better memory.
