Penguin Snacks for Preschoolers Using Goldfish Crackers

Goldfish-cracker penguins can be a creative way to liven up an after-school snack, coax your picky eaters to at least nibble on their food, and a fun way to end a school lesson on animal life. You can take a healthy or sweet approach to making these snacks, depending on your preference and your kids’ tastes.
  1. Egg Penguins

    • For a protein-rich snack, you can include a hard-boiled egg on the snack menu. You need a hard-boiled egg, two large olives, toothpicks and a carrot slice. Cut a small triangle out of the carrot slice and poke it into one of the openings of an olive to create the head and beak. Using a toothpick, attach the beaked olive to the top of the egg. Slice the other olive in half vertically and attach these to the side of the egg with toothpicks. Position the egg penguin onto the rest of the carrot slice and keep it in place with another toothpick. Fill a ramekin with Goldfish crackers, place it next to the penguin and its snack time. Repeat procedure to create one penguin egg for each child.

    Cracker Penguins

    • For each kid, spread a layer of cream cheese on two circle crackers and position the crackers on a plate so the sides are touching. Finely chop a handful of olives and sprinkle the olives all over the crackers except for a small round section of the penguin’s tummy area. Use two Goldfish crackers for the penguin’s wings and two for the feet. Offer extra fish crackers, if desired. Repeat to make enough for everyone.

    Toasted Penguins

    • A toasty penguin is a tasty one. Lightly toast an English muffin for each child and spread a thin layer of chocolate nut spread on them, excluding the lower-center area where the penguin's tummy should be. Place one Goldfish cracker on the upper part of each penguin for the beak. Grab one banana slice for each penguin, cut them down the middle and place one piece on each side of the muffins for the penguin’s wings. Cut another banana slice for each down the middle and use those for the feet. Place one Goldfish cracker on each of the wings as if the penguins are holding them. A few more Goldfish should be sprinkled by the feet.

    Marshmallow Penguin

    • A chocolaty marshmallow penguin is a yummy little treat. You will need one extra large marshmallow, plus a milk chocolate candy bar, two candy eyes, two regular pretzels and some Goldfish crackers for each preschooler. Melt the chocolate bars in the microwave in a ceramic bowl. Dip the marshmallows into the melted chocolate until they are completely covered. While the chocolate is still semi-melted, push the candy eyes in place, place one Goldfish cracker below the eyes for the beak, position two goldfish crackers on the bottom of the marshmallow for the feet and place two regular pretzels on the sides of each penguin. Place your new friends on a plate, sprinkle the goldfish around them and they're ready to join the party.
