Fold the paper width-wise into quarters. It should look like a narrow brochure with the top flap opening to the right.
Open the top flap and reverse the fold so that the top flap is now on the bottom. Turn the paper over. The edge of the flap should point left now.
Write the title of the book at the top of the flap. Underneath the title write "Chapter 1."
Open the right side of the bookmark. There will be two sections. The section on the right should be folded back so that the section on the left is on top. Write "Chapter 2" along the top edge.
Repeat step 4 but this time write "Chapter 3" at the top of the new section.
Turn the bookmark over and write "Chapter 4" at the top of that section.
Repeat steps 4-6 for Chapters 5-8.
Lift the Chapter 8 section and reverse the fold.
Turn the bookmark over so that the Chapter 1 section is on top. The bookmark is finished and you are ready to take notes on Chapter 1. Each time you finish a chapter, open the right side of the bookmark. Then reverse the fold so that the right section is folded back and the left section is on top. Then you'll be ready to start the notes for the next chapter.
Make a new bookmark for chapters 9-16. Continue making new bookmarks until all the chapters of your book are finished. If you unfold and store finished bookmarks in a binder all of your notes will be in order by chapter.
