How to Convert Hg to Kpa

Millimeters of mercury (mm Hg), inches of mercury (in Hg) and kilopascals (kPa) all measure pressure, which refers to the perpendicular force applied to an object. Millimeters of mercury and inches of mercury refer to the distance that mercury rises when pressure is applied. For example, 1 mm Hg equals the amount of pressure needed to raise mercury 1 millimeter. To convert between pressure units, you need to know the conversion factors.

Multiply the pressure in inches of mercury by 3.38638 to convert to kilopascals. For example, if you have 37 inches Hg, multiply 37 by 3.38638 to get 125.30 kPa.

    • 2

Divide the pressure in inches of mercury by 0.2953 to convert to kilopascals and check your answer. In this example, divide 37 by 0.2953 to get 125.30 kPa.

    • 3

Multiply the pressure as measured in millimeters of mercury by 0.13333 to convert to kilopascals. For example, if you have 50 mm Hg, multiply 50 by 0.13333 to get 6.67 kPa.

    • 4

Divide the pressure in millimeters of mercury by 7.5 to convert to kilopascals and check your answer. In this example, divide 50 by 7.5 to get 6.67 kPa.
