How to Convert MPH to Feet

Miles per hour, or mph, measures the speed at which an object travels. Feet, on the other hand, is a measurement of distance. In order to convert a speed to a distance, you need to know the time duration that the object was traveling at that speed. You also need to know that in each mile, there are 5,280 feet. You might want to convert from mph to feet if you want to compare the distance that two objects traveled.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a watch to count the time the object is in motion.

    • 2

Multiply the speed in mph by the time in hours to find the distance traveled in miles. For example, if a car traveled for 2 hours at 45 mph, multiply 2 by 45 to get a distance of 90 miles.

    • 3

Multiply the number of miles by 5,280 to convert to feet. In this example, multiply 90 by 5,280 to get a total distance traveled of 475,200 feet.
