How to Convert CM/S to GPM

Cubic centimeters and gallons measure volume, while seconds and minutes most often measure time. Flow rates represent the volume that accumulates per unit of time, such as the amount of dirt sorted per second or the amount of liquid that passes through a processor per minute. Since flow rates are composed of both a volume unit and a time unit, you can convert either by converting the volume unit first and the time unit second, or both units in one step.

Instructions

    • 1

Divide the flow rate in cubic centimeters per second by 3,785.4 to convert to gallons per second. For example, if you have a flow rate of 20,000 cm/s, divide 20,000 by 3,785.4 to get 5.28 gal/s.

    • 2

Divide the flow rate in gallons per second by 60 to convert to gallons per minute. In this example, divide 5.28 by 60 to get 0.09 gpm.

    • 3

Divide the flow rate in cubic centimeters per second by 227,124 to convert to gallons per minute in one step. In this example, check your answer by dividing 20,000 cubic centimeters per second by 227,124 to verify your answer of 0.09 gpm.
