A pixel is a tiny dot of color which, when combined with many other little dots, makes a digital image. As digital camera sensors have become more advanced, the resolution of digital photos has increased. The prefix "mega-" stands for one million, meaning that it takes 1 million pixels to equal 1 megapixel. If you want to compare the resolution of two different photos and one is measured in pixels and the other is measured in megapixels, you need to convert to compare the two values.
Instructions

1
Enter the size of the photo in pixels on a calculator. For example, if your picture has 3,500,000 pixels, enter "3,500,000."
-
2
Push the division sign.
-
-
3
Enter "1,000,000" because there are 1 million megapixels per pixel.
-
4
Push the equals sign, and the calculator displays the resolution in megapixels. In this example, the calculator will show "3.5," meaning 3.5 million pixels equals 3.5 megapixels.
