How to Count GPAs in Kindergarten

Knowing how to count your child's grade point average (GPA) in Kindergarten can make the difference between noticing if your child is having trouble and if she has to be challenged more often. Kindergarten is the first official grade where students are given grades. Kindergarten grades are not alphabetic; they are more of an assessment of how they are doing. The three assessments are: Mastered, Satisfactory and Unsatisfactory.

Instructions

    • 1

Give numerical properties to the assessments given to your child. For example, give the "Mastered" assessment a 3, the " Satisfactory " assessment a 2 and the "Unsatisfactory" assessment a 1. A 3 will symbolize an A, A 2 will symbolize a B and A 1 will symbolize a C. The numbers allow you to calculate the grade point average with ease.

    • 2

Count the assessments or numbers together from your child's report card. For example, if the student received: two "Advanced" grades and one "Satisfactory" grade, add 3 plus 3 plus 2 to equal 8.

    • 3

Divide the number from Step 2 by the number of grades your child has received to receive a grade point average. For example, 8 divided by 3 equals 2.66, which, according to the given guidelines, is the equivalent of a low B+ or high B.
