Give each child a teddy bear cutout of a poster board so they have a sturdy base. Set out teddy bear pants, shirts, dresses, hats, shoes, ties and buttons precut out of colorful construction paper or craft foam, or let the kids make their own. Extra embellishments, such as lace, real buttons, glitter or ribbon can give the children more options to personalize their bears.
Give children cutouts of a bear head, arms and feet to fit onto the teddy bear cutout like a puzzle. The students can color the pieces with crayons, markers, colored pencils or finger paint. They should decorate the bear's face and add paw details. Once the teddy bear pieces are glued together, allow the kindergartners to glue googly eyes, pompom noses or patches of felt for texture.
Help the children make sweet teddy bears to incorporate different colors and textures. They can spread glue over the teddy bear cutouts and sprinkle a sugar and cinnamon mixture or dried tea leaves from used tea bags over the bear. Use elbow macaroni, perhaps dyed different colors, if you want a less messy alternative. Use larger candies, such as round mints, for buttons, eyes or the nose.
Give the kids magazines or pictures of real bears and teddy bears to cut out. Use different sections of the teddy bear cutout to hold the real animals and other sections to hold the cuddly kind. For example, real bears can make up the body of the teddy bear, while teddy bear images can decorate the face and limbs. The kids can arrange the photos in any way they'd like to create a collage shaped like a teddy bear.
