The story of Jephthah and his daughter is found in Judges 11. Jephthah made a vow to God that if he won a battle against the Ammonites, he would offer as a sacrifice the first person who came out of his house to meet him upon his return. Unfortunately, his daughter was the first to greet him, and he felt bound by his vow. His daughter accepted her fate and asked for two months to mourn her lost life.
