Once admitted to medical school, students must complete a four-year curriculum leading to a medical degree (MD). During this time, they must take courses in a variety of subjects, including anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, and pathology. After graduating from medical school, students must complete a three-year residency in neurology. During this residency, they will work under the supervision of experienced neurologists and gain experience in diagnosing and treating patients with neurological disorders.
After completing their residency, neurologists can practice medicine independently or pursue further subspecialty training. Subspecialties include neurocritical care, epilepsy, movement disorders, neuroimaging, neuro-oncology, and vascular neurology.
