How to Get Grants to Send Children to Private School

Unfortunately, some public schools are unable to meet the needs of all of their students. Parents of students whose needs are not met by the public school system have very few options, some of which include homeschooling, enrolling their children in a charter school, or enrolling them in a private school. Many parents want to send their children to private schools for a variety of reasons. However, the cost of tuition at many private schools is far too much for many families to consider. Fortunately, grants are available for some children to attend private school.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit your children's current schools' registrar's offices to obtain current copies of your children's report cards and academic awards. This is important information to have available because a variety of merit based grants are available for children wishing to attend private school.

    • 2

Contact the financial aid offices of the private schools in your local area. A listing of private schools can be found in the phone book or online. (See Resources) Discuss merit-based and need-based grant opportunities with the financial aid representatives at the schools.

    • 3

Ask the private schools you are interested in sending your children to about sibling grants. Many private schools offer a full or partial grant to families that have more than one child enrolled in the school.

    • 4

Apply for regional grants and scholarships for your child to attend a private school. A list of these can be found on Fin Aid. (See Resources) Be certain to pay careful attention to deadlines. It is vitally important to adhere strictly to deadlines imposed for grants as well as registration for the private school you have chosen.
