Sources for Assistive Technology Grants for Parents

According to Disability Funders Network, 20 percent of the U.S. population has a disability. Assistive technology (AT) devices, such as adaptive computer keyboards (large keys) and voice recognition software, can help children and adults with disabilities engage in tasks which might be difficult due to mental or physical impairments. A variety of grants and alternative funding sources are available to help a parent access AT to improve a child's mobility and educational opportunities.
  1. United Cerebral Palsy

    • United Cerebral Palsy lists information on a variety of organizations in local communities that donate refurbished computers and assistive devices to disabled children (i.e. Easter Seals and Lions Club International). Parents can learn about obtaining funding for assistive technology through the Individuals with Disability Education Act (IDEA) and the Individualized Education Program (IEP) used in special education programs of local school districts. The Disabled Children's Relief Fund, a source listed on UCP, offers grants for assistive technology and other services for children with disabilities.
