Get as much information from the teacher as possible regarding the required information for the report, how long it should be and whether it should be handwritten or typed. The report will probably include basics about the animal such as color, size, habitat, diet, interesting facts and a picture of the animal.
Take your child to your local library to check out books on the animal. Choose books at the appropriate reading level for your child so he can read and make discoveries about the animal independently. When a new, interesting or required fact is learned, have your child write it down on a note card.
Help your child look for information about the animal online. Find age-appropriate sites where the child can scroll through and learn about the animal as well as look at pictures. Continue to assist your child in writing information down on note cards.
Gather all of the note cards and sit down with your child to assist with the actual writing of the report.
Find a good picture of the animal and print it on a color printer to include with the report. The picture can be used on the cover of the report.
