Pros & Cons of Campus Vending Machines

If you ever find yourself hungry and have a dollar in your pocket, then heading to a nearby vending machine seems to be the perfect solution. Vending machines have made their way from offices to parks, museums and even school campuses. As convenient as vending machines are, some parents express concerns about the way they can affect their children.
  1. Pros

    • Vending machines are convenient to anyone craving a snack or hungry. In addition to convenience, they also offer a wide variety of chips, cookies and candies for a comparatively low cost. Vending machines are also very common, and you can walk to one on campus in a matter of minutes

    Cons

    • Vending machines sometimes raise health concerns since they only offer fatty or sweet snacks. Parents are concerned about their kids at school since they are vulnerable to vending machines. The other main concern is corporate profits. Some schools are only tied to a certain company and thus prevent other companies from fair competition.

    Alternatives

    • Some parent groups have proposed that schools should offer vending machine alternatives for their children. For example, vending machines could offer fruits and healthy snacks as opposed to offering chips and cookies. In addition, instead of offering sodas and sugary drinks, vending machines should only offer water or healthy fruit juices.
