Some colleges have laid down guidelines as to how they expect vending machine vendors to stock the machines on their campuses. For instance, the Arkansas College of Public Health at the University of Arkansas requires all juice products sold from vending machines on campus to be 100 percent juice, without any added juice, sweeteners or herbal supplements. The University of Minnesota requires that fruit juices in vending machines should be 100 percent fruit-based.
Colleges may also dictate how vendors market their wares to students. The Arkansas College of Public Health expects the vending machine to have signage promoting water, 100 percent juice or physical activity. It requires that the containers dispensing soft drinks, juice and water be the same size. The University of Minnesota expects vendors to avoid large bottles for dispensing juices.
At Darton College in Albany, Ga., vending machines are provided through a contract with a local business. These machines are located in certain strategic locations for the convenience of Darton students and faculty. For instance, those who want juice can buy it from vending machines at the college's administration building, at the entrance to the lobby. Juice is also available from a vending machine in the Darton student center building.
Ohlone College offers its students the convenience of vending machines. At its Fremont, Calif., campus, for instance, the college has a machine located in the lobby entrance to the cafeteria that dispenses juice. This is a refrigerated machine, according to the college. In addition to juice, the machine also dispenses sandwiches, fruit and milk. There are also other vending machines outside various buildings on the campus.
