Ideas for Back to School Basket of Goodies

Whether your child is headed back to elementary school or is a senior in college, providing a back-to-school goody basket is a way of giving her a present, while at the same time giving her some of the materials she will need for the upcoming year at school. Look to purchase items for the basket in late July and early August when many stores have back-to-school sales.
  1. The Basics Basket

    • Even with the advancement of technology, students still need some basic materials in order to study at school. These materials include pens, pencils, crayons, colored pencils, notebooks, loose paper, erasers and rulers. Create a basket which focuses on these items. This will be more beneficial to the younger student who is just learning to perform fine motor tasks such as writing and coloring. Other additions to the basket can include scissors, glue and art supplies such as construction paper and laminate coverings.

    The Electronics Basket

    • This high-priced basket is for the student who is going to high school, moving away to college or even sweating it out in grad school. A laptop computer complete with appropriate software will get him ready to write papers and surf the web. Extras include an MP3 player or electronic tablet such as the iPad which will give the student some mobility if he is on the go. Consider adding a wireless card connector, headphones, gift card to the bookstore and printer and ink to complete the basket.

    The Tolietries Basket

    • If your child is going away to school, then you know she will need lots of tolietries. Fill this basket with items such as deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, dental floss, soap, shampoo and conditioner. Add other items such as hair dryers, curling irons, cotton swabs, lotions and creams. If you are not sure what brands she likes, include a gift card to a major retailer where she can purchase her own toiletries.

The Brain Food and Care Basket

    • Back to school baskets need some semblance of study food. Popular choices include chips, popcorn, corn nuts, pretzels and candy. You can also add beverages such as sports drinks, soda, tea, coffee or bottled water. Keep your student healthy by also adding vitamins and cold and flu medicine. Finally, throw in a few basic first items such as disinfectant, adhesive bandages, gauze and tape.
