Speak with your child's science teacher about the themes and concepts taught during science class. Ask what general concepts are being taught, such as electricity, robots or insects. Ask additionally if the teacher could tell you in which areas your child shows interest or needs assistance.
Search through science project product websites for products that fit your desired science theme, budget and age group. Read the product descriptions carefully and look for whether additional products, such as complementary kits or batteries, will be required.
Pay particular attention to consumer reviews for indications of a product's hardiness, age appropriateness, likelihood of successful usage and the amount of interest it generated in other children.
Narrow your choices down to no more than five products, and then ask your child which he or she thinks is the most interesting. Let your child's interest in a science project guide your purchasing decision.
