Lake of the Woods, VA Public Schools

Lake of the Woods is a private, gated community in Orange County, Virginia. Featuring 4,260 single-family lots, the community has been governed by the Lake of the Woods Association, Inc. since 1972. With emergency services inside the gates of the community, Lake of the Woods is almost entirely self-sufficient; at just about an hour's drive south of Washington, DC, and north of Richmond, the community is placed perfectly for professional commuters.

    • Lake of the Woods offers many activities for school children.

      Lake of the Woods is a premier community; amenities include lake access, a golf course and pro shop and many family-friendly activities. Lake of the Woods features a state-certified preschool for children ages 2 to 4. For older children (11 to 15), the Community Center in Sweetbrier Park offers regular youth activities for residents and guests. The Community Center is also available for social gatherings and celebrations.

    Orange County Elementary Schools

    • Locust Grove Elementary has several bus stops throughout Lake of the Woods.

      Orange County offers five different elementary schools: Gordon Barbour (grades K to 6), Locust Grove (grades K to 6), Lightfoot (grades 4 to 6), Orange (grades K to 5) and Unionville (grades K to 3).

      Locust Grove Elementary is the closest of the five elementary schools, and is on the same campus as Locust Grove Middle School, about 8 miles down Constitution Highway from Lake of the Woods; the district provides school bus service to Locust Grove Elementary and Locust Grove Middle School.

    Orange County Middle Schools

    • The Orange County Public School District offers two middle schools: Locust Grove and Prospect Heights. Locust Grove Middle School is a mere 10-minute drive down Constitution Highway, about 8 miles away from Lake of the Woods.

    Orange County High School

    • Long-term education plans are an important part of planning a move.

      The high school offers many extra-curricular activities, including the Hornet basketball, football, wrestling, baseball, softball, gymnastics, track, swim, field hockey and fishing teams; marching band; Reserve Officer Training Corps and other clubs. Orange County High School is about 24 miles (30 minutes) from Lake of the Woods, but bus service is available for those children who do not drive themselves.
