Set the cardboard pieces on top of each other and tape them together.
Tape the three batteries together in a line, positive end to negative.
Separate the two wires. Snip the white wire into two 10-inch lengths. Snip the red wire into one 18-inch length.
Set the taped battery stack down at one side of the cardboard platform. Push nails into the cardboard along the batteries' sides to "fence" in the stack.
Tape the stack down to the cardboard, leaving the positive and negative ends open.
Strip 1 inch of insulation off both ends of each of the three wires.
Place the exposed copper of a 10-inch white wire flush on the negative base plate of the last battery in the stack and tape it down. Place the 18-inch red wire's copper end flush over the buttoned positive terminal plate and tape it down.
Loosen the screws on the porcelain base. Wind the copper end (from the battery stack's white wire) around a screw and tighten it. Attach the other white wire to the other screw and tighten.
Screw the flashlight bulb by hand into the porcelain base.
Gently stretch the wires out (without detaching them) to achieve as neat a wire rectangle as possible. At the midpoint of the short wires, push thumbtacks down over (not through) the wire to hold them in place. Use two thumbtacks to secure the longer red wire.
Tape the porcelain base to the cardboard. To further stabilize the base, cut out the shape of the base in the cardboard, insert it and tape it; leave the screws accessible.
Cut out one end of the shoebox and place over the lightbulb, with the open end toward you.
Touch the copper end of the red wire to the white from the lightbulb base to complete (close) the circuit and light the bulb.
Separate the two wires to break (open) the circuit. The separation interrupts the current's circuit and turns off the bulb.
Set the toggle switch in the "Off" position.
Tape the ends of the toggle switch to the red and white wires.
Cut a space in the cardboard that fits the toggle switch. Insert and tape it down.
Switch toggle to "On" to complete (close) the circuit and light the bulb.
