Instructions for Hooked on Math

Hooked on Phonics was released in the late 1980s as an educational tool for children struggling with their language arts skills. Due to the success of Hooked on Phonics, the creators went on to develop Hooked on Math, which works as a supplemental tool for children struggling in the area of math. If you are a parent with a child who is struggling, you can learn how to use Hooked on Math to improve those skills in a few steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose your child's workbook. Hooked on Math comes with four workbooks that vary by skill level. The two lowest levels are the yellow workbook and the orange workbook. If your child has trouble adding or subtracting numbers from 0 to 18, start with the yellow workbook. If your child has the skill to add and subtract numbers 0 to 18, start on the orange workbook.

    • 2

Run through the day's lesson. The workbooks that come with Hooked on Math have daily lessons that you can use to instruct your child. Using the appropriate Hooked on Math workbook, CD and flash cards, run through the lesson with your child.

    • 3

Practice the lesson. After you have run through the lesson, have your child use the workbook to complete practice problems. Then check the answers in the back of the workbook with your child. If your child did not get the correct answers, review the material until he understands what he did wrong.

    • 4

Play a game from the workbook. The workbooks also include games at the end of each lesson to make learning the material more fun for your child. Have your child complete a game at the end of the lesson, and then when she has finished, celebrate by placing a sticker on her progress page.
